A guide to Volkswagen’s Small Cars
Volkswagen have recently delved further into the SUV market with updates to their Tiguan, Touareg and T-Roc. However, their small car line-up is still as strong as ever…
These cars are perfect for everyone, from novice drivers to experienced motorists. With a range of frugal and powerful engines, drivers really are spoilt for choice!
The biggest of the trio, the Volkswagen Golf has been around for decades and has ranked amongst the best sellers year on year. Built on the shared MQB platform, the Golf can comfortably seat five adults and has plenty of tech to keep them entertained. The model range runs from the base spec Golf S to the ludicrous Golf R, boasting 4 wheel drive and 300bhp! The most poular model however has to be the iconic GTI; with its tartan seats and great handling, there are few cars that do so much so well!
The Volkswagen Up is the smallest car Volkswagen currently offers. Despite its small footprint it will comfortably fit four adults. The Up comes with an economical 1.0 litre engine, a good level of standard kit and boasts some of the cheapest insurance premiums for young drivers.
The Polo makes up the middle ground in Volkswagen’s small car line-up, offering more space than the Up and a smaller footprint than the Golf. It’s one of the bigger superminis on the market, making it a solid choice for a small family too. Once again, the model range is extremely broad; it includes everything from the rapid GTI to the stylish Polo Beats. Its roomy interior is deceptively hidden by a compact frame, this enables even novice drivers to park the Polo on tight city streets.
