Entertaining the kids on long journeys this Summer

The Summer Holidays are quickly approaching and while many of you will be planning action-packed days out, there will be parents out there who are dreading the long car journeys and wondering how to keep the kids entertained in the car for more than ten minutes. At Smallbone and Son, we have put together our top tips on keeping the kids entertained in the car, have a read and let us know what your tips are too!

The Sat-Nav says you’ve still got 80 miles to go and the backseat of your car looks like a dumping ground of crisp packets and discarded toys. The decibel levels are rising and you’re actively planning on how you can escape from the car with no one noticing. We are here to tell you; it doesn’t have to be like this.

Tip 1 – Story time

Kids love a story and what better way to calm the atmosphere than to tell their favourite story but with them starring as the main character. This way, you’ll put a new twist on their favourite story, and they get their moment in the limelight.

Tip 2 - Turn up the music

You will be familiar with Carpool Karaoke and it’s a great activity to recreate in the car, so long as your ears can take it. Put on the radio or their favourite song and sing your hearts out for some fun-filled family time that is sure to make the time pass quickly.

Tip 3 – Last resort

The iPad. If all else fails, it’s time to whip about the last resort and allow some extra screen time. While this isn’t ideal, it will buy you at least ten minutes of peace and your destination will be that little bit closer.
